Church Retreat

The Resurrection Journey

Pilgrim firs, May 12-13

As we journey together into 2006, save May 12 and 13 for a very special and spiritually uplifting event.  This year’s retreat will explore themes of resurrection,

 both personal and communal.

Your Board of Deacons is excited to announce that this year’s church retreat at Pilgrim Firs will feature Lucas Smiraldo, a playwright with twelve productions to his credit.  He was a featured artist for Poetry Jam One at the Langston Hughes Center, and has won the right to open for the national tour of the HBO College Poetry Jam.  Smiraldo most recently performed at the mayor’s Hip Hop Awards in Seattle.  He is a founding member of Radical Jazz Uprising, a spoken word and jazz ensemble.

Lucas Smiraldo has presented lay sermons and inspirational talks on spiritual issues, social change and community transformations at venues throughout the Pacific Northwest.  He recently lead a 27-hour Marathon for Peace iin Tacoma featuring performances and dialogue amongst poets, musicians, college professors, counseling and health experts while drawing an ethnically and politically diverse community of 200 participants.  He is currently in the early stages of developing a new and innovative spoken word theater company called THE 28TH HOUR to further explore social, political and spiritual issues of the early 21st Century.

A gifted seminar and retreat leader, Smiraldo will offer his own poetry and lead us to write verses of our own.  Please save the date.  You won’t want to miss this retreat.
