Missions & Giving
As Christ’s community, we respond with our time and financial resources in support of the work of the Church: in our local area, our country, and areas of need around the world. Our congregation supports many organizations, both locally and internationally. Support comes from the church and from individuals within the church.

Members donate food items as well as financial contributions to the Key Peninsula Food Bank, serving residents of the Key Peninsula and anyone in need of food. Items are gathered by the front door of the church and delivered to the food bank by volunteers.

Changing lives through self-sustaining education, Orphans Africa provides quality education and safe residences for orphans and non-orphans in Tanzania. Members of the church serve on the board and report on their visits to the schools. Many members make annual donations. More information is available at orphansafrica.org.

Through hands-on immigrant assistance programs, AIDNW’s small staff and over 200 volunteers address the needs of detained persons held inside the Northwest ICE Processing Center, and upon release. Working from a large RV called the Welcome Center, volunteers greet immigrants as they are released from the Center in the Tacoma Tide Flats. They assist with travel plans, supply hats, gloves, and food, and if necessary, provide temporary housing. Some volunteers support detainees inside the Center with visits and letters. Members of FIUCC volunteer in several ways at AIDNW. More information is available at aidnw.org.

Through our national denomination, we respond to needs around the country and the world. For many years, FIUCC has been named a “5 for 5 Congregation”, meaning that we participate in all five of the annual mission offerings.
One Great Hour of Sharing: this special mission offering of the United Church of Christ carries God’s message of love and hope to people in crisis. The UCC works with international partners to provide sources of clean water, food, education and health care, small business micro-credit, advocacy and resettlement for refugees and displaced persons, and emergency relief and rehabilitation. One Great Hour of Sharing also supports domestic and international ministries for disaster preparedness and response.
Neighbors in Need: a special mission offering of the United Church of Christ that supports ministries of justice and compassion throughout the United States. One-third of Neighbors in Need funds support the Council for American Indian Ministry. Two-thirds of this offering is used by the UCC’s Justice and Witness Ministries to support a variety of justice initiatives, advocacy efforts, and direct service projects through grants.
The Christmas Fund: The Christmas Fund has been caring for active and retired clergy and lay employees of the United Church of Christ for over 100 years, providing emergency grants, supplementation of small annuities and health premiums, and Christmas “Thank You” gift checks each December to our lower-income retirees.
Strengthen the Church: The funds raised support leadership development, new churches, youth ministry, and innovation in existing congregations.
Our Church’s Wider Mission: Funds from the local churches are sent to the regional Conference and to the national setting of the United Church of Christ to support the ongoing work.
